Facebook Adds Function to Harass People About Their Relationship Status

    Facebook
Facebook relationship status is no longer to be left to the imagination.

Bad enough mom is harassing you why you’re not settling down with a nice guy/girl, or your friends have to keep asking about your relationship on the rocks.  There’s now a simple button on Facebook that will do the dirty work.

You can “Ask” your friend what’s up with their love life. When you click the button a text box pops up to ask about their relationship status.

With one click and a quick note, users can query friends about the status of their love lives if they’ve chosen to not list that information on their profile.

We can only imagine some of the things people could be asking…

    “Didn’t I hear you got a divorce?”

“Oh, are you and John done???”

The recipient will then see a relationship status request and the note from their friend. Users are given the option to choose a status, such as “single,” “widowed” or “It’s Complicated,” before choosing to reply only to their friend or going public with their status.  The option of “none of your business” was conspicuously missing.

This is still in testing at this time, but widely available.

Facebook (as we all know) gained popularity mostly because it made it easy to determine if the person you want to bang is still single.  If you don’t know anyone to search for you can simply search for “single women/men in san jose” for a list of the most eligible talent.  But some people leave that drop-down menu empty, or protect that info from non-friends. Fortunately, Facebook is testing this button that lets you harass them about it.

There’s also a function to ask someone about their hometown, or other personal stat’s.  But, this is much more tempestuous.  Good move I’d say on the part of Facebook to sort of re-adjust the focus to the objective of hooking up.  Perhaps a bit of charm, and mystery is lost.  But let’s face it – too much talk of puppy dogs and ice cream.
